A month ago there were around 14 4k monitors at B&H - now there are 22.
There have been many 4k monitors recently introduced. Yes - probably - waiting in this case is not a bad idea. Seems like we're still one generation away from not having to mess with workarounds to make 4k monitors integrate seamlessly. Not sure that is as much of a difference.Īfter trying out in the store - probably not a lot of difference (however the store did not have internet connection to check out good 4k videos). I'd like to know what difference 50hz makes vs 60hz before going through the hassle of ordering.
#31MU97 4K HDMI FOR MAC MAC#
The 2013 MacPro (nMP or the tube Mac Pro) did not have problems driving both the monitors - but if I connected the Samsung (mini) DisplayPort in one of the lower Thunderbolt ports I did not get picture simultaneously on both the monitors (the Dell was connected via HDMI). But I will keep the Samsung and sell the Dell. 4 megapixel and the Samsung is 3840 x 2160 i.e. There did not seem a lot of difference resolution wise - after all the Dell is 2560 x 1600 i.e. So the Samsung factory calibration was good (the monitor included the factory calibration report) - compared to my uncalibrated Dell.
#31MU97 4K HDMI FOR MAC PRO#
I set up the monitor next to my Dell U3014 (2560 x 1600) for comparison - colors were really better on the Samsung (my Dell is not calibrated as I just got the xrite i1 Display Pro last week). Have not yet calibrated it but the good pictures from the ones I have taken look really great on the Samsung. The monitor looks fabulous & playing around in Lightroom is great.
In fact I wish the Samsung was 3840 x 2400 (instead of 3840 x 2160) and have the same aspect ratio as my Dell U3014 (2560 x 1600). About the LG - aside from the colors and possibly better calibration options on the Samsung - I felt the LG was too wide for my taste (for photo editing). But decided paying sales tax was being a good state citizen as well as support the local store - and lower price was not worth the wait. The price in Fry's was the same as Amazon $1499 (down from $1999) - I know this price will likely go down in future and B&H/Adorama will likely have this in future at $1499 but not collecting the sales tax. I tried both the Samsung and the LG in Fry's electronics (I know not a very good test to check out factory calibrated monitors) & preferred the Samsung - see more of my experience at &.
I will wait for the price to drop at B&H or Adorama to buy. The price of the monitor has dropped to $1499 (from $1999) at Amazon - I guess as it is not competitively priced with respect to the LG (which is $1399). Also the downloads page (under software) shows link to MAC version of Natural Color Expert (NCE).
#31MU97 4K HDMI FOR MAC MANUAL#
I may not have really understood how exactly LG has hardware calibration - but Samsung gives clear instructions on hardware calibration in their user manual ( ) - using their software Natural Color Expert (NCE) along with calibrators like i1 Display Pro. LG's specs for the 31MU97 show hardware calibration ready.
